Natural Beauty Tips, The Important Role of Vitamin B12
A recent study of Vitamin B12 deficiency in elderly people discovered that an estimated 10% -15% of individuals over the age of 60 years are lacking in vitamin B12, with 40% of elderly hospitalized patients suffering from low or borderline serum B12 levels.
One in ten over the age of 60 is said to suffer from pernicious anemia the second most common cause of B12 deficiency, an autoimmune deficiency disease which causes antibodies to damage the stomach lining preventing B12 from being absorbed by the body efficiently.
Poor absorption is caused by the lack of stomach protein that is required to transport the B12 vitamin from the stomach to the small intestine, this inability to produce stomach protein leads to inadequate absorption of B12 and as we age this becomes more apparent, because our digestive tracts become less efficient in absorbing valuable enzymes and nutrients.
Anti aging natural beauty tips need to be so much more than just about what we put on our skin, there really is no hope in a jar miracle cure and if we are to truly nourish our self then it has to come from within through the use of a healthy diet and good supplement support, especially the vitamin B12 which often gets forgotten about.
Folic acid is also a valuable nutrient as it aids healthy memory function, it does this by recycling chemicals required by the brain and communicating and fighting artery plaque which can reduce the blood flow to the brain.
B12’s role in helping memory is well researched and it is not uncommon for people to go to their doctors because they are experiencing memory loss or other mental decline only to discover that they aren’t getting enough of the valuable vitamin B12 in their diet. B12 also lowers the risk of homocysteine a dangerous chemical in the body that if found to be to high, can cause alzheimer’s in some people.
Its is so important as we age that we look after our health and preserve our natural beauty and for anyone who feels that they may be deficient in vitamin B12 it is highly recommended that you seek medical advice.
If you are low it is also a good idea to take additional calcium and folic acid to help aid absorption further.
